Dr. Gabrielle Francis
The Herban Alchemist

DR. GABRIELLE FRANCIS has been practicing holistic medicine for over 33 years. She utilizes chiropractic, naturopathic medicine, acupuncture and oriental medicine, and massage to treat a broad range of maladies and to restore optimal health and balance to her patients.

As a holistic physician, Gabrielle seeks to restore and maintain maximum health by emphasizing nature’s inherent self-healing process-the Vis-Medicatrix naturae. She accomplishes this through education and the use of natural therapeutic methods and substances, which work in harmony with the body. These include: body/mind counseling, diet therapy and nutritional substances, herbal medicine, homeopathy, aromatherapy, chiropractic manipulation, physical therapy, massage and acupuncture and oriental medicine.

In practice, Dr. Francis adheres to the philosophy and principles of naturopathic medicine, which include:
The healing power of nature
Identify and treat the causes
First do no harm
Doctor as Teacher
Treat the whole person
Prevention

Her medical approach is perhaps best summed up by Sir William Osler who said, “It is better to know the patient that has the disease than the disease a patient has.” She intentionally limits the size of her practice, enabling her to devote more time to the diagnosing, treating, and long-term education of each individual patient. Patients are given customized treatment plans for balancing body, min and spirit. Health maintenance and lifestyle changes are emphasized.

Gabrielle earned her doctorate in Chiropractic at National College of Chiropractic in Chicago. She received her degrees in Naturopathic Medicine and Acupuncture and Oriental medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle. She completed a clinical residency for Acupuncture, Chinese Massage and Chinese Herbal Medicine at Chengdu Hospital for Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. She did a residency for Bastyr University at Biomedical Center Cancer Facility in Mexico where she learned the utilization of alternative medicines for cancer treatment. She received certification in drug and alcohol detoxification using acupuncture at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, NY.

Dr. Francis has postgraduate studies and degrees in Environmental Medicine and Toxicology, Functional Medicine, Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Fertility Enhancement, Mind Body Medicine, and Neurotransmitter and Endocrine Support.

Following her 17 years of medical education, Dr. Francis embarked on several years of world travel. She combined her love of travel and culture with a quest for knowledge of medicine from indigenous cultures. She has studied Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in China, Thai Massage in Thailand, Ayurvedic Medicine in India, and Mayan Abdominal Massage and Spirituality in Belize and Guatemala. She has also done ethnobotony trainings in Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Cuba and Morocco. Most recently, Dr. Francis joined a team of researchers in Cuba to study the acclaimed Cuban health care system. The knowledge and experience she acquired on her travels is reflected in her unique perspective on medicine and healing.

Gabrielle currently practices in New York City as The Herban Alchemist and operates Backstage Alternative, which provides natural medicine to Rock’n’Roll performing artists on tour. She is the designer of Apothe-Carry Natural Remedy Kits and Moroccan Elixir-Argan Oil.
