If you'd like to experience improvements to your life, but you're having difficulty bringing them about, try the process of scripting. Scripting is, quite simply, writing about your life in the present tense as though the positive changes you desire have already occurred, and you're living them fully. It may seem too easy a process to have any real effect, but there are several reasons it works. For one, your subconscious mind always wants to stick with what it knows. It has what we hypnotherapists call a Life Script which it follows to the letter. This script was written when you were a small child and comprises all the positives and negatives that you absorbed as you lived your little-kid life. The loyalty that your subconscious mind has to this Life Script is so strong that it will stick to what's familiar even if you know it's no good for you rather than switch to something unfamiliar even if you know it would be an improvement to do so. Let's say you're currently engaging in a habit you know is not healthy, like smoking or eating processed foods or not getting enough exercise. You've realized that continuing to live this way is becoming detrimental, so you decide to change. But somehow, you're never able to give up this habit for very long. It seems you keep falling off the wagon and returning to the unhealthy way of living. It doesn't make sense. You made up your mind to change. Maybe you even declared it to those around you. But you can't make it stick. You might think you have no will power. Perhaps you've even tossed around the term "self-sabotage". In reality, what you're experiencing is your subconscious mind's resistance to changing from the Life Script. This is a perfect opportunity to use scripting. Writing is an ideomotor activity. Ideo, like idea, means that it engages your mind. Motor, like motion, means that it engages your body. Any time you use a mind/body connective activity, it will have a stronger effect than if you do something using only your body or your mind. You will be using this process to engage your body and your mind in rewriting your Life Script. In addition, your subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between fantasy and reality. When you write out the details of your improved life, being as specific as possible, you release your subconscious resistance by allowing your subconscious mind to believe the new situation is in place, realize that it's safe and, quite likely, even enjoy itself. The more details you can employ, the better. Make use of sensory descriptions: what you see, hear, taste, touch and smell. Decide which elements of your life will be the same and which will be different. Get as involved in the description as you can. It's happening now, and you are living the benefits of it as completely as possible. It doesn't have to be a long description. You can simply write about a typical day with the improvements in place from the moment you awaken until you go back to sleep. Scripting can be used for any improvement you want to make to any area of your life. If you commit to scripting at least once a day for a few weeks, you'll begin to notice how the universe seems to be providing you with more opportunities to live the life you genuinely desire, and that's exactly what it will be doing.
