"SAFE HAVEN" was the exact words one of my first clients used to describe our time together. It was this sense of safety and connection that allowed her to explore life events that had previously kept her: isolated, fearful and angry. Our work together, incorporated directive based and open therapeutic art-making to help her share the burden of her trauma, understand how she was feeling in relation to what she had experienced and to facilitate forming a new sense of direction.
I am passionate about my work because I have experienced alongside my clients the transformative power of the creative process. Expressive art-making with intention and guidance empowers the client to explore, in their own way and at their own pace, the challenges they are facing. It opens doors that verbal therapy alone overlooks.
What makes my practice unique is how I weave my broad-based counseling and art therapy training/experience into an integrative whole- that addresses the needs of almost any client. My approach is psychoanalytically based with strong ties to: attachment theory, human development, mindfulness, and the mind-body connection.
